Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) signed an MoU with QNu Labs to jointly advance R&D in quantum communications over optical fibre, reinforcing India's push to build next-generation quantum-secure digital infrastructure. The collaboration combines STL's expertise in high-capacity fibre-based transmission, including its advanced multi-core fibre technologies, with QNu Labs' leadership in Quantum Key Distribution, hybrid quantum cybersecurity, and quantum cryptography. As an initial milestone, QNu Labs demonstrated its QKD system over STL's 4-core Multi-Core Fibre, achieving secure key exchange across 170 km alongside 800 Gbps of classical data, and over 150 km alongside 1.8 Tbps of classical traffic a significant breakthrough in integrating quantum security with high-capacity optical networks. India's quantum communication sector is forecasted to grow to approximately USD 139.8 million by 2030 at a CAGR of ~34.6%, making this collaboration strategically significant. Both organisations aim to develop scalable, future-ready quantum-secure network architectures for deployment in India and international markets. QNu Labs CEO Sunil Gupta described the partnership as a step toward turning India into a quantum-safe nation, while STL CTO Dr. Badri Gomatam emphasised its role in establishing secure, future-proof optical networks.
